When I ask parents what you want your child to take away from a summer at Camp Stanislaus, I usually get “to have a safe and fun time” or “to make new friends.” These are great reasons; however, there is more to camp then just having fun. Camp builds on many life skills and helps campers learn more about themselves. I believe camp can play an important part in a child’s life. A recent article by Sunshine Parenting’s magazine identified 5 reasons every teen should go to Summer camp, which are:
- Improving Interpersonal Skills & Form Close Friendships
- Taking Safe Risks & Challenges
- Experiencing Character Growth and Develop Life Skills
- Meeting Positive Role Models, and
- Discovering Their Better Self
At Camp Stanislaus, we want our campers to not only have fun and make friends, but actively engage in developmental experiences. These experiences will develop many necessary skills and attributes, which are not fostered in schools and traditional educational setting. This is what makes attending summer camp such an important part of any boy or girl’s social and psychological development.
