People will tell you Camp Stanislaus is a safe and fun place where kids can come to have a great summer and learn new things. Camp Stanislaus is located in Bay Saint Louis, MS, right on the white sands of the Gulf Coast, but that’s just its physical location. Camp goes deeper than just a beautiful locale. Once a young man or a young lady attends Camp Stanislaus he or she takes a piece of camp home that will be cherished forever. There are certainly the physical skills that are learned, like getting up on water skis for the first time or getting checked off to sail without a CIT, but these are minor skills compared to the Christian values, social interaction and the independence our campers and counselors gain.
Camp Stanislaus is a special place with a deep tradition which dates back to 1928 when Brother Peter established it to give campers a fun place to build character in a Catholic environment. Prayer is a strong part of Camp. To this day we still have daily character talks given by Brother Lee Barker on topics which range from homesickness to making friends to peer pressure. Camp also has a highly trained staff of men and women who serve as Christian role models to the campers. Our staff is always there to ensure our campers are safe. Counselors are there to talk whenever someone needs a pep talk.
Our counselors are also great facilitators and know how to get the groups interacting. Many campers come to camp not knowing a soul, but leave with friends that they will have for a lifetime. Every camper is different, but there is invariably someone at camp who has some of the same interests as another camper. Camp is non-stop action and most of its activities focus on the campers working in groups to accomplish a goal.
Some parents find it hard to send their child off to camp for the summer, but it is one of the most precious gifts you can give your child. All children need to find themselves and grow individually as a person. Camp Stanislaus is an ideal place to enable them to grow into the person God wants them to become. Our campers are pushed to try new things and be themselves. Some of our campers may get homesick because they have never been away from home before. Our counselor’s help the campers get through it and let them know that they are growing up and can do anything they set their mind to.
St. Stanislaus campers leave as confident young boys and girls with many new skills they will work on throughout their life. Sure Camp Stanislaus is a fun and safe place for kids in the summer, but if you plan on sending you child here for the summer rest assured that they will be taking the most valuable part of camp home with them.
